I am from Hong Kong, where democratic rights are constantly repressed by China. One good point that you have made was how China and America have both a bad track record on human rights. The hope for China to smash American hegemony was just that of the hope of replacing imperialism with another imperialism with a human face. I am in deep faith that to topple oppressive power structures, we should put our hope to bottom-up collective action and a global solidarity of the oppressed, instead of a rising external power that replaces oppressive structures with another.
